The problem

Hips can be complex. Let's figure them out together.

You squat and something pinches. You run and something clicks. A physio, a coach, or a Google search told you your hips are tight, your glutes don't fire, or you're just not built for that range of motion.

Maybe someone said "bone on bone" and left it there. Maybe you've been given a list of hip flexor stretches that do exactly nothing. Maybe you just want to squat deeper and nobody can tell you why that isn't happening yet.

Not understanding what is going on in your own body is frustrating. The hip sits at the intersection of your lower back, your pelvis, your pelvic floor, your nervous system, and your gut. When something feels off, it's rarely one simple thing. And a five-minute answer rarely covers it.

The click or pinchNobody ever explained what that actually is or whether it matters.

"Your glutes don't fire"You've been told this so many times. It has never helped.

Bad hip mobilityStretching hasn't changed it. You're wondering if it ever will.

Is it the hip or the back? You genuinely can't tell. Neither could the last person you asked.

The workshop

We map the whole picture. Together.

The Hip Landscape is a two-hour, physio-led workshop. We work through your hip anatomy, your movement patterns, and the parts nobody usually mentions: what role does your pelvic floor play? What about your breathing? Could your gut actually be involved?

You leave with a clearer picture of what is going on in your body and some practical tools to work with. This is not a treatment session and it is not individual assessment. It is education, hands-on movement, and the kind of explanation most people have never been given.

  • 1
Self-assessment We start by taking stock. You assess your own hip, back, and pelvic movement so you have a baseline to measure against.
  • 2
Anatomy and the wider system Is it hip or is it back? What is bony, what is muscular, and what role do nerves and organs play? We cover the whole landscape, including the pelvic floor.
  • 3
Abdominal and breathing work We use abdominal massage and 360 breathing to shift how your body feels from the inside. Most people notice something change here.
  • 4
Hip movement and glute awareness We address the "glutes don't work" myth with a specific approach to building body awareness and useful power through the hip. No isolation, no pointless clamshells.
  • 5
Reassessment and Q&A We reassess what has shifted and leave space for questions. You go home knowing more than when you walked in.
Who is running this

I'm Steph. Physio, S&C coach, and someone who has been told to stop too.

Steph Lock, physiotherapist

I'm a physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach, and clinical pilates instructor. I run Adventure Physio out of Jandakot, and I work with active people who want to understand their bodies, not just be managed by someone else.

I know what it is like to be given a diagnosis that closes a door instead of opening one. I've heard "your running days are over" and I've sat with clients who have heard versions of it about their hips. That story is rarely the whole truth.

These workshops exist because a single appointment is not enough time to really explain anything. I'm excited to have the chance to go into depth with you.

What people are saying

From the Shoulder Landscape

"Thanks so much for the workshop last weekend. Not only did it feel great for my own body, but it has already been a great source of exercise inspiration in the clinic... You nailed it. I've been doing breathing work with patients since and it has honestly been so useful."

The Shoulder Landscape Workshop attendee, Chiro

The Hip Landscape is a new workshop. If you have worked with Steph before and want to share your experience, reach out at hello@adventurephysio.com.au.

Is this for you?

This workshop is for you if...

  • You have a click, pinch, or ache in your hip and nobody has properly explained what is going on
  • You have been told your glutes don't fire and you're tired of clamshells that go nowhere
  • You want to squat deeper, run further, or move better and feel like your hip range is the thing holding you back
  • You can't tell whether your pain is coming from your hip, your back, or somewhere else entirely
  • You're an active person who lights up when someone actually explains something instead of just giving you a sheet of exercises
  • You are a trainer, pilates instructor, or yoga teacher who wants a better understanding of hip mechanics to use with your own clients

Questions

A few things people ask

Is this a treatment session?

No. The Hip Landscape is a group education workshop. There is no individual assessment, no hands-on treatment, and no clinical advice given for your specific situation. If you need a one-on-one appointment, you can book that separately at adventurephysio.com.au.

Do I need to have a hip injury or diagnosis to come?

Not at all. Plenty of people come because they want to squat deeper, understand their body better, or are just curious. You don't need a problem. You just need to be interested.

What do I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. We'll be on the floor for some of the movement work, so shorts or tights are helpful. Bring a water bottle. We will have mats available.

I have had a hip replacement. Can I come?

Possibly, depending on how far post-surgery you are and what precautions you're still working with. Send me an email before booking and we can work out whether it's the right fit: hello@adventurephysio.com.au

I'm a health or fitness professional. Is this useful for me?

Yes, and a number of previous workshop attendees have been exactly that. The content is designed for a general active audience but the anatomy, the breathing work, and the movement approach tend to be genuinely useful for people who work with bodies for a living.

What if I can't make it on the day?

Life happens. If you need to cancel, get in touch as early as you can at hello@adventurephysio.com.au and we will do our best to sort something out.
