Pushing Boundaries and Embracing Gowth and the Unknown

  1. An unusual and exciting or daring experience.

  2. A Reckless or potentially hazardous enterprise

  3. Not knowing the outcome before you start

Adventure to me is a necessity. It helps me expand my comfort zones, teaches me new skills, shows me who I really am and what I'm made of, helps me bond more strongly with the people around me and makes me better at every aspect of my run of the mill, day to day life.

There's no denying that some adventures include an aspect of risk, but I like to think of adventure as a philosophy. You don't know what the outcome will be before you start. It makes you slightly (or sometimes very) uncomfortable in a thrilling way.

Adventure is relative and all about perspective. At one stage in my life, in my early 20s, I considered going for a long walk by myself around the river in a neighbouring suburb to be an exciting adventure that pushed my comfort zones. Lately, that's my regular dog walk and my adventures have broader horizons- like hiking the Larapinta Trail in the remote Northern Territory alone over 14 days.

Starting a new job is an adventure. Riding the Munda Biddi is an adventure. For some people, an adventure is staying in a hotel that doesn’t have room service- and that's still awesome for them.

Adventure to me is a growth mindset.
